Hi there,

Im visiting bucharest for 4 days, im meeting a friend there. She works and lives tehre ( albeit shes french ) so I assume that she knows the city already.

Is there some good spots not be missed ? Any tips ( apart from the cliche of keep things next to you, etc etc ? )

Any tips would be great appreciatted..

Beware of gypsies - kids women - all shapes and sizes - many of them in Romania. Romanians are very nice and warm people, even more so in a countryside. They remind me of Italians - loud and fun. Bucharest is a beautiful place. If you are with someone that knows it well - its a great help. But even just walking around the downtown/center area is nice. Lots of pretty girls. 😉
Countryside is very nice too, but same things apply - watch out for gypsies and travel with a local person.
I have never had any issues there, but I kept my eyes open and was with several friends that are local and know where not to go and what not to do.
This is about 2 -3 year ago report. But I think it's about the same other than money changed and prices went up.
Hope it helps.

Why is that?
There's a lot of begging and pickpocketing going on in the Central European countries, not only in Romania.
I was working in Poland for six years and there were always a lot of women and children begging on the hypermarket parkings and in the cities - and they definitely did not look like they were Polish.
We never gave anything to the women and never gave money to the children because they had to hand it over to their families anyway. If you want to donate something, give the children some food, drink or sweets.

When in Bucharest, beware of the packs of stray dogs. Those can be really nasty.
Once, a construction company was keeping a pack on their site as cheap security; they were fed and in return were guarding the site.
After completion, the construction company drove the dogs out and basically locked the gate to the estate. The pack was then gathering in front of the gate, attacking pedestrians with the police watching from the other side of the road not knowing what to do.
My colleagues friend was always carrying some stones in her pocket to repel the dogs, if necessary.

Regarding the girls: yes, the Central European girls are very beautiful! I should know,I am married to one. 😉

Best regards,
Uwe

Really? And why is that? Did I say something that is not true? There are many gypsies in Romania and like it or not - many will beg, rob and steal. While nothing happened to me or my stuff, my friend's, who is romanian, car was scratched by gypsies as we didnt want to park where they were trying to chage money for parking. Believe me - I told the truth, so people can be aware. If it hurts your feelings - tough. Sometimes reality hurts. And if you are upset about romanians, italians or anyone else - I don't think I said anything to upset anyone. Somepeople are soooo touchy. Relax.
