Hi,
friday I will go in canada and US for a trip.
As a result of the last terroristic events and of the obvious airport restrictions, now is very difficult to travel with film camera...
So I have decided to reduce my expensive and delicate Leica gear, placing side by side it to a Olympus e-1 digital kit (with 7-14 / 14-54 / 40-150 lens).
I am considering one Leica M3, 50 1,4 Asph (or a new Heliar collapsible 50/2), a yellow filter and one single film, to buy and to develop in Canada, Ilford XP2 Super (rated at 320 Iso).
What is it your judgment? Perhaps I am mistaking and then I will mourn this choice? Anyone has never used the XP2 at 1600 Iso with push processing (how much? +2 0 +3?) ?
Thanks very much for your advice!

Stefano

PS.
sorry for my bad english

Unless you are flying through the UK en route to N. America there are were no additional restrictions on film or film cameras that I'm aware of, and I've read that film and cameras are now ok to carry on from UK also. Of course nobody knows when the next round of restrictions will come and what they will be. However, film and processing are widely available everywhere in the US and Canada and prices are no higher than in Europe (maybe lower), so I think you're worrying needlessly. OTOH if electronic devices are restricted then you'll have to put your digital camera and peripherals in checked baggage too, risking theft and damage. So "going digital" isn't exactly the answer to all that ails either.

That said, if you need an excuse to "go digital" then the events of last weekend makes for a pretty good one. But then I don't understand why you would buy that Olympus setup and then still gravitate to an M3 plus the horribly expensive 50/1.4 ASPH. I have a digital setup, and if I'm taking it then I don't take my Leicas. I do take along our Rebel Ti as a backup.

Hi Ben, thank you very much for you response.
I'm not happy at all to "go digital"! I love film photography and my leica gear! But I have to flying trough UK...
I thought about digital Olympus because is my wife gear. The problem is the value of my leica kit (21/2,8 28/2 35/1,4 50/1,4 75/2 M3 and M7) and the possibility of a theft or a damage...
Do you know good places to buy and process BW film in Toronto and New York?

Thanks a lot

Stefano

Latest news from UK is that they alow hand-luggage again.

Check with your airline, if they agree take the analog gear and have fun!!!

There's a few places in Toronto that have Neopan 1600 & Delta 3200, mainly the big downtown camera stores of Henry's, Vistek and Downtown Camera.

There's also a few places that dev B&W like www.torontoblackandwhite.com & www.torontoimageworks.com ... there's more, so hopefully other Torontonian's will chime in.

As for NY, home of B&H and Adorama... you'll be able to buy B&W film.
