Advice on bw developing/scanning

Hi There,

I get these darkened and smeared edges from my Nikon Coolscan (500 I think?) when I do bw 35mm negatives. You can see the right and left of this image below is a little darker and more blurry than the rest.

Do you have any advice on why this is happening and how to avoid it? Are the negs not dry enough or is this standard for the scanner? Thanks for your help!

Are you feeding using the SA20 that sucks the film in? If so then get an FH3 strip film holder an duse it with the slide adaptor. It will keep your film falt and avoid the risk scratching the emulsion as the film slides in and out of the scanner.

Edited to say - the SA20 and 30 can allow the film to curl a bit, which leads to out of focus edges.
