Hi all you veterans,
i am looking for your advice where to get a hood for my newly aquired Summarit - but one with a reasonable price. The original ones are a beauty as the lenses are, but the prices are... let ´s say not in my budget
I did my first test roll during a trip to Rostock last weekend. I´ll get the pics tomorrow and hope one or two will come out well. Ijust kept the sun in my back.
Thank for listening and looking forward to your advice,

Hello Fritz, congrats on your Summarit! I've gone with a 41mm to 43mm step-up ring to access easier to find filters and hoods.

Welcome to the forum Fritz, I use a commom 40.5mm hood with pipe tape on the threads and it is a good fit on my Summarit.

I have a vented 40.5mm hood that I had acquired for a Zeiss Sonnar that fits very snugly with a single layer of insulating tape wrapped round the threads of the hood - there are similar ones out there on the unmentionable auction site

I bought Gandy's VC hood (gasp!) for mine. Works well so far. Here's the link:

But it does look a bit funky ...

Fritz, whatever you get, make sure it's rectangular and not round. The Summarit is notoriously prone to flare -- I never could use the one I had -- and it needs as much protection as you can give it. Or else use a round hood and a "hood cap" with a rectangular cut-out in it. The Summarit, I might add, also has fragile coating and is made from easily damaged soft glass. Needs to be babied.
