I agree, that side grip makes all the difference in the world...

I went with the winder on my Ts and LOVED IT! The winder has an extra strap lug so you can hang the camera sideways and on your right shoulder. It made it perfect to swing up for a quick shot. Very well balanced. IMHO, a winder is a gotta have accessory for every Bessa RXX.

Agree with Bill on the trigger winder. The extra bottom lug is great, allowing the camera to hang vertically, making for a very fast grab 'n shoot. I moved mine over from the Bessa T to the R4A and then taped the thumb wind lever to make sure I use the trigger. Keep forgetting 😱

If i may add another question here: is the magnification of 0.52 a problem for focussing correctly with a 40 or 50mm Nokton wide open?

The .52x magnification is not a hugely different from the .58x option of some Leica models. Probably not such a big loss of focusing accuracy there... but then when you add in the effect of the rather short baseline of the rangefinder, the question gains strength. I don't know, as I've not used a fast 50 on my R4A...

I would guess that focusing a 50/1.5 may be a stretch for the R4. 40/1.4 may squeak in, I wonder if anyone has tried.

I love my R4A, I wouldn't recommend using over a 35mm lens with it though as the framelines for the 50 are too small (for me at least). The camera has some weight to it and is not as cheaply made as some may think.

I'm getting one as I have the CV21, CV35, and will soon have the CV28. I also have a Canon 50 but will probably leave that on the Bessa R.

A quick question to R4a owners.

Does the base of your camera look like this?

It's as if there's a cap missing on the right hand side that should be covering the bottom of the winder mechanism. Presumably this is open like this to accept the "trigger winder".

Should there be a cap over it? This is how it came out of the box.
