At the last Photokina in Cologne I met some folks of a German camera magazine, named 'camera'.
We spoke about this and that and after some months they wrote about my story. In short: street photography from 1970 - 1974, a long break and restart 35 years later with…..streetphotography. In a different world with an aged brain and bones…..;-)

Thanks for reading.

Congratulations!

Is there an English language translation available direct from the magazine site? I didn't see a way to tell the site to display in English. I can read German with some difficulty or have Google translate it, but if there's an English version already that would be preferable.

thx,
G

Godfrey, thanks a lot!
Sorry, there is no translation available….
But the content is easily told: as a young guy messing around with my Iron Love, the NikonF (The 'nam camera at those days) one photograph which I made changed everything into street- and social photography. The old guy in the backyard.

For 4 years during short trips all over Europe and yearly holidays streetphotography mainly with human subjects was my goal. Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa my absolute heroes, b&w film and bathroom developement my routine.

Around 1974 it stopped because I started windsurfing in 1973 as one of the first persons in my area and photography stopped nearly completely. Job, family, kids, the house etc. took me over……
Around 2006 I sent a photograph to an Apple magazine (the Irish drinker of a dark Guinness) and won the 1. price.

Bad, because I started photography again and spent a lot of money into Leicas, Nikons, Pens and Bessas.
The first years had been frustrating because I could not remember the mood I was in when I walked through London, Paris or Amsterdam.

But then the line of situation, subject, lens and heart/eye became stronger and in an different scenario after more than 35 years again I'm strolling with a cam in my hand, but mutch more tired feet after some hours….

Thats the content. The pics are in my flickr account, the old ones at the end and the newer at the beginning…….Have fun and thanks for watching!

Thanks a lot and hurry up because in 20 years you'll have my age…now🙄

Well... I was on travel for years, different countries and continents. Interesting people... It was on film era and I didn't know how to do b/w, color was expensive... Only few dozens of slide and color 135 film negatives including family pictures. Couple of dozens pictures from earlier years...
Now I regret what I learned about DIY b/w film photography just few years ago.

You had talent. Why did you stop?

"You HAD talent" 🙁 no worries….

Photography for me as not 'to get images printed' at these times. It was drifting and messing with friends or on my own and my camera. Just a hobby, but in 1973 I stood for the first time on a windsurfer. My Hobie 14 collected more and more dust because the windsurfer was so much less hassle. No trailer, no place to store and…..the crazy feeling later like monoski and fast planing. Together with my girl friend (todays wife) we visited so many places for competitions all over Europe in our VW Bulli
Suddenly I was married😀, the children arrived and the job at JVC and TDK left no free brain for creating nice photographs. Restart as written above.

My younger son received some kind of DNA…..I think:

All the best and may the Light be with You! 😉
