After CLA Problem and also need a part

I know it is crazy but the original repair man clearly didn't know what to do. Many of us have spent amounts of money on cameras that we will never ever get back.

I have just sold a III something body, fully serviced by CRR about ten years ago, quiet, smooth and excellent but of no great interest. The sale price just about covered the service but certainly not the cost of the camera...

We can learn a lesson from this. A month ago an Italian dealer had a black and nickel III (1936) for sale that wasn't working. However, he said that the curtains were in great shape. The camera did cost EUR 160. The black and nickel III is a relative rare camera because in those years chrome came into fashion. I bought the camera. I only had to clean it on the inside and oil it a bit and then the camera was working like new. The curtains and the straps are original, but like new. It was clear that the camera wasn't used for several decades, more than fifty years or so. Now it is a wonderful smooth working camera with a very cool patina.

The black and nickel III is the only prewar black camera with strap lugs. Also it is smoother and more solidly built than the earlier Leicas. I very much prefer it to all the IIIc's and IIIf's.

Beautiful camera ! What lens is it wearing?

I have two black Leica IIIs', both in the 117xxx neighborhood. A bit sadly, both have had PC flash syncs added, but they are both delightful users.

I've never seen a pre war black/chrome III, at least, I do not remember any. There are black/chrome II's, but these are without strap lugs. The black/chrome III's are all post war conversions AFAIK.

Hi Guys,
I mentioned this in another post but i didn't show any pictures of it.
Is this likely a damaged thread either on the winding knob or the spindle?

I cant get the winding knob to screw down far enough. This leaves a gap as you can see that 1) stops the frame counter working properly and 2) causes the spindle and its little spring on the underside of the top plate to pop out of its little recess and this makes the winder slip and not wind on.

Digital images can play tricks on your eyes, but downloading your PB image and zooming in, it does look like you've got a couple of mangled threads. The threaded stem section is hollow so it would be risky trying to fix it. Of greater concern is what appears to be some damage to the top drive gear right below the spring. If any of the teeth are damaged, you should get a parts camera, unless the tech you choose has the shaft and adjacent gear(s) on hand.
