Aftermarket 1.25x eyepieces?

I had the HK Supplies version 1.25x mag and it seemed okay. Only problem in It unscrewed itself one day when I was out shooting and I haven't seen it since. The little case it somes with snapped off also and I lost that at the same time. The Leica one has a little catch to keep it safelt secured to the camera, I hear. Not sure if I'd spend a "Leica kind of money" on something so easily lost. Looking back, I didn't find it so usefull anyway and would just as well have saved my dollars and bought film instead! 1.25x isn't that much. I think a 1.33x would be more useful for me for focusing a Nocti of longer lens.

I have the same one discussed above by TJV and haven't had any problems with it. Works well for increasing focusing accurancy with longer focal length lenses. And it's hard to argue with the low price.

I have HK x1.25 magnifier, used to have it attached to my M6 when shooting with my 90mm Elmarit. Indeed makes 90mm frame bigger, so is the RF patch coverage. Helps in focusing. However, the downside of it is mainly for eyeglasses wearers. The magnifier's edges are hard metal one and I would image would easily scratch the glasses. Can be fixed by some kind of rubber o-ring or something like that.
I found 50mm frame thruogh the magnfier to be approx. like 35mm without the device, perhaps even slightly bigger, hence a bit harder to see, though again, this is mostly relevant for those who wear glasses.
Another thing worth to mention - the screw throw of the magnifier is really short, take approx. 1/4 revolution to put it into M6 eyepiece. Admittedly, doesn't inspire confidence at the beginning, but in actual usage I found it sitting qute snug and secure. Had never loosened so far...
Having said that, I found ultimate solution for confortable long lens usage (50 and upwards) - an M3. Since getting a user M3, the magnifier mostly sleeps in its pouch humbly, has rarely taken it out ...

I bought the HK 1.25x magnifier for my .85x M6. With the magnifier, I get a 1:1 (or very close to it) finder. Sounded great, but...

The magnifier is well built. But I don't like the way it sticks out from the camera. And, more seriously, I can't see the full 50mm framelines when the magnifier is attached. As I use a 50 most of the time, the magnifier has spent a lot of time warming the bench.

my m6 is a .72 and i thought about the magnifier for my 50 cron, and my eventual longer lenses. It might not be something I need right now, but it never hurts to research.

How far out does it protrude from the camera?

One thing that seems to be consistent regarding our respective experiences with these magnifiers is that they are more problematic if one is an eyeglass wearer. I'm not, so my experience seems more positive than those who are.

I have the HK version. Love it. In fact, I never take it off my M8. As long as I go no wider than 28mm, I don't have a problem seeing the frame lines.

My personal guideline for .72 and magnifier is: it's good to use it
for 50/1.4 and 90/2, I don't need it for 50/2 and 90/2.8.

Best.

Hi, I have the 1.25 from HK supplies, it came with an M2 I just purchased and it is brilliant. I have it on my M3 for use with my 50mm f1.2 and 90mm lenses and I can't fault it. It does stick out a little, but the positives far out weigh any negatives, Andrew.

On the M8, it is in almost constant use. On my M3, 4-P, and 6, it is only used with 90 or 135. I've used both the Leica and HK version, and other a chain, I can see no difference other than price.

As far as the perturbing eyepiece, I also have Nikon D1/D2 DSLR's with the DK-17m. Now, that really sticks out there.

The Leica 1.25x resides permanently on my M8 also. IMO the 50 framelines are too small on this camera. I haven't used the HK version, but I do have a Megaperls 1.3x on my Epson RD-1. The Leica setup seems more clear and brilliant.
