I hate.. nay.. I LOATHE bag threads because there's so many of them here BUT I need help for yet another bag..

I was hoping that I could snag a J803 (Domke) to carry my Leicas and my MacBook but I've read that the J803 can't handle that.

So... anyone out there with any recommendations for a bag that will fit a 13"x9" MacBook as WELL as my Leica M's and lenses?

I'm willing to try anything at this point. This is mainly to ensure I have an "all in one" travel bag. I'd rather not carry my MacBook separately in yet another bag.. and I don't want to check the MacBook in my checked luggage either.

Thanks,
Dave

what about the 802 domke?
it's very big, almost too big for just camera gear.
in fact, if you look, domke calls it a satchel and not a camera bag.
i have one and it could handle a laptop and plenty of gear.

Joe,

I've got the f803 already and I know it's perfect for my gear.. but not for my gear plus a laptop... I guess I want something just a wee bit bigger to carry the laptop.. the j803 looked to be the way to go but now, after reading some threads here and there, it looks like it's not big enough 🙁

Ralph, I haven't thought about the f2 but will look into it now that you suggest it..

Actually.. you said 802 😀

And after having looked at the 802.. it is bigger so it may accommodate the laptop plus gear. It may be perfect (and it's cheaper than the others) for traveling by plane... nice all in one solution..

Dave: I had an F2 in my SLR days (which survived 18 years and at tleast three camera systems, and is now in the hands of a fellow RFf'er), and while I thought it was a great bag, I think it'll be a tad chunky for your needs. I keep thinking one of the bigger Domke satchels should handle a MacBook plus your camera gear (don't forget the Mac's power adapter, and perhaps a dongle or two), but I could be wrong. Like you, I love my F803, but that's obviously not the ticket here.

Yep, the F-802 seems fitting to your needs. It is cheaper than the F-803 probably because it comes without any padded inserts.

actually, i said...oh what the hell...the bigger bag!
the numbers are whacky i think - the 802 is bigger than the 803..makes no snese to me.

anyway, i bought a used 802 thinking it was the smaller bag so i started to use it as my day bag and it's very good for that and then i just ordered an 803, the smaller bag to hold my 2 bodies and 4 lenses.

whew...

If you're interested, $20usd plus $5 to ship to US address...Paypal is ok...

Bob,

Thanks for the offer and taking the trouble to post pics. 🙂
It's appreciated but I think I've just about got my heart set on the F802 right now.

Randy.. I hadn't seen that review and it answers all of my questions; muchly appreciated!! 🙂

Thanks again guys,
Dave

The A&A Salgado. My friend uses it with his Macbook and M8 plus three lenses and loves it. It is not cheap and hard to get but BEAUUUUUTIFUL!

you're very welcome, Dave...actually I'm glad...I really don't know where I could find a box big enough to ship it...regards, bob

Dave,
I've got three Domke bags. The 803, the larger 802, and the little f5x. My 15" Powerbook fits snugly into the 802's forward main slot. This leaves the two big front pockets for the power supply, mouse, beer can, etc...

There is not much, if any, padding. However, my f5x fits very snugly into the rear main slot with room to the sides (about 4").

My concern, if flying, would be the lack of padding for the gear (both laptop and camera). Maybe a backpack with a padded sleeve for the laptop, and a small bag like the f5x for your camera.

If you want to take a look at something good, but also cheap, for travel, I bought a Case Logic backpack for about $40, I think, at a best buy. It has space for six M8 lenses in the well-padded bottom compartment, plus an M8 and a lens in the top compartment. There is also a padded sleeve in back that will take my 15 inch MacBook Pro, and two smaller zipper side slots for small items like filters, cable release, etc. Bag is made from nylonj and seems pretty water resistant. Doesn't look like a camera bag -- looks like a book bag.
