Howdy

Google'ed around and was led to a thread here about this apparently lovely film. Everyone seems to be raving about the price. I can get it here in limited supply for a bit under $8 a roll. From what I've seen, it looks like nice contrast but w/o any over saturation, which sometimes I aim for. (That's just from a few web pics I've seen).

There was some question whether it was the same emulsion as Provia 100F. I can get a 5-pack of Provia (36 exposures, 135) for just a bit over $8 each. Let's say they're roughly the same price (and after shipping I think they are). Will they come down to the same thing? From the cross processing images I've seen on ye old interwebs, they don't look the same. But, that's probably not the gospel.

Anywho, hope everyone has a good Friday.

Hi,

yes, the current AgfaPhoto CT 100 Precisa is cut from Provia 100F masterrolls.
Consider it as "the amateur version" of Provia 100F.
With Provia 100F as a professional film the distributors are obligated to store the film cool, in the refrigerator.
With CT 100 Precisa the distributors are allowed to store the film at room temperature.

The price - performance ratio of this film is excellent.
Price of CT 100 Precisa: The best prices you get in Germany.
At dm drugstores it cost only 4,23€ per film. At Rossman drugstores 4,79€.
You can also order it at the numerous specialised German film internet distributors (there are more than 10 of it in Germany, more than in any other country worldwide), like macodirect or fotoimpex (both do international shipping).

Cheers, Jan

Thanks guys. It indeed looks quite nice. Looks like the price here in Japan isn't too bad considering it doesn't have real distribution. I can get it for about 1 EUR more per roll it seems. I probably can't get that through international retail I would assume, once the shipping comes in to play. 😉

Guess I'll do a roll of it next to Provia 100F crossed and see if there's any noticeable difference.

I wanted to come back to this:
With Provia 100F as a professional film the distributors are obligated to store the film cool, in the refrigerator.
With CT 100 Precisa the distributors are allowed to store the film at room temperature.

When you say distributors, you mean the wholesalers, not the retailers, right?

Just wondering. Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku probably has the best selection of film for a walk in shop anywhere in the country... they're all refrigerated. Across the street at Camera Kitamura, they have a very humble selection, but all the professional FujiFilm and Kodaks are there... right on the shelf. No refrigeration.

Was just curious whether it was a regulation or not. They keep the shop itself very cool during the winter (Tokyo is brutally humid, and quite hot in the summer) but I will go out on a limb and say they probably heat the place to 28 or so in the winter. They really are ridiculous across the board here.

This stuff is great quality I've shot nearly 10 rolls this summer...

For cheap £4.00 film it's wonderful

+1.
Excellent price-performance ratio of this film.
Finer grain than Ektar 100 and Portra 160, better sharpness and significantly higher resolution.
And significantly cheaper. With slides you have a finished picture. With negative film you have to pay for prints. And prints in very good quality do cost something.

Now in the autumn,"the Indian Summer time", it is also time for colour reversal films.
The wonderful Indian Summer colours look best on brillant slides.
Such Indian Summer slides on the lighttable, and especially in projection......it is so awesome! Nothing else can beat that.

I really don't know of a film with better price/performance ratio.

Indeed... it isn't much cheaper than Provia 100F for me, but I realize that that's unique to Japan for the most part.

I had the lab cross process a roll... it's nice, although I think I like the colors better when it's over exposed by about a stop.
