Have you used this film? B&H has it for sale @12.99. It is it worth the pain and price etc... to send it to http://www.dr5.com. What about shooting B&W and having it processed to a B&W transparency? Reason I ask, my birthday is coming up on October 21st, and I want to do something special. 🙂 I won't be shooting indoors, only outdoors, cityscape. What are your thoughts? Just do it?

In my freezer, 9@Velvia 50, 3@K64, 1@Provia400F, 1@Provia100F, 1@E100VS, and 2@Neopan400.

I shot my last roll of 35mm Scala about a month ago then developed it in Rodinal for B&W negs...haven't printed anything yet...
I have some shots that were developed normally (slides)...they do look nice...
I have 8 rolls of 120 and two boxes of 4x5 in the fridge that, once shot, will be developed in Rodinal for negs...I don't see the need to have transparencies...
$12.99 for a roll of Scala...(I don't remember what I paid but I would invest in something else)

It is not that hard to do reversal processing yourself, you need a few simple chemicals and some patience. And a clear base film, such as APX 100 or most 120 films.

There is a lot of information in the Web. You may start with Ilford's document.

A Nelsonfoto thread here discusses variations on the Ilford process, especially separating the density reduction step, which IMO makes the process a lot more reliable.

Mark, my wife's birthday is Oct. 21, and I happen to love Scala slides. The stuff is great, makes look like a much better photographer than I am. I use Main Photo also in CA, and they do a good job with a pretty quick turnaround. I love it 'cause it's so much less grainy for me than regular b&w negs. I would say definitely treat yourself for your birthday, and make sure to include some shots with moody lighting, you'll be amazed. --John/sooner
