Agfa Super Isolette Filter

My Agfa Super Isolette finally arrived from Jurgen Kreckel yesterday, yah hoo!

Does anyone know what filter size fits this beasty with the SolinAr 75/3.5 lens? It appears to have an inner thread as well as accepting push-on filters. I've not used any Series filters before so I do not know the slightest thing about them, such as size, adapters to lens hoods, etc.

I know the Iskra takes an M33 filter but this is smaller, I'd almost guess at 30mm.

Cheers,

30.5?

30.5?

I think its a 30.5 contact jurgen because as well as cameras he has ALL the filters and hood to go with them

lens comparisons

Hi,

Would anyone care to comment on the comparative ‘quality’ of the Agfa Super Isolette 6x6-on-120 75mm/3.5 Solinar lens versus the Pentax 6x7 55mm/3.5 SMC lens?

I just got back my first two rolls of film through the Agfa and am blown away by the detail, color, clarity, etc. Now I’m wondering if the Pentax lens above would be a ‘move up’...or not.

Incidentally, outdated Agfa Ultra 50 produces vibrant, gorgeous colors! Great street scene film.

Thanks,

Perry

I'm just finishing my first couple rolls with my Afga Super Isolette. I haven't tried color film yet. I want to develop a couple B&W rolls first then when assured of shutter speeds go with color.

While the Solinar is good enough to be a match for more modern 35mm lenses, given the bigger film format, more modern medium format equipment is in yet another class.

I can't remember whether I ever handled the Pentax 55mm, but apart from it being a serious wide in a bigger rectangular format, it is (or can be) a current lens, and should be a significantly better performer. The Pentax 6x7 lenses seem to be as good as or better than those on the RB67 or Mamiya Press - and my equivalent Mamiya lenses kill that Solinar hands down. Even the 70's redesigned last generation Tessar types of some Mamiya Press lenses are quite a cut above it.

Pentax lenses better than Mamiya Press lenses?

Actually, I have no experience with the Pentax lenses, but of course their 35mm lenses gained a well deserved reputation, so I am sure their 6x7 lenses are great too. I do have Press lenses and they are quite good for sure. IIRC, mine are earlier, since I think the later ones all had a blue dot on them. But they are good. Maybe the Pentax lenses had to be better to compensate for the mirror slap? :D :D

EDIT: Some of the folders do give great results though. I get good results from my Weltas, and the Zeiss Ikon 6x9 is just a pleasure.

The 50mm may be the one exception, as that is a near-symmetric Russar (SA/Biogon) like type on the Press, and beats both my RZ 50mm (W and even ULD) - with lenses as wide as that, a SLR is (or was up until very recently) handicapped. As far as lenses in general go, my RZ lenses are visibly ahead of my (last generation) Press lenses (and older RB lenses), and whenever I rented a Pentax 6x7, it always impressed me as being optically on a par with the RZ.
