Agfa Vista plus 100 film - any opinions?

Check where it's made. If it says Made in EU, like the older stuff I've tried (not "Plus"), it's Ferrania film. Bad news, unless you like your 100 speed film grainy and with a yellowish cast.

The thing to remember is that the old Agfa (Leverkusen, Germany) no longer exists. Only Agfa-Gevaert (Belgium) is still around, but they don't make consumer products.

This stuff is AgfaPhoto, which is just a name. It's repackaged film from other manufacturers.

I used to quite like Agfa Chrome film, I used it for a couple of years before I discovered how much more I loved Kodachrome.

If it is the genuine Agfa Vista 100, it is good, even if not as fine-grained as other 100 speed film.

Re: Agfachrome ... I liked it as much as Kodachrome, but for different reasons. It was not (again) as fine-grained, but the colour palette was simply different; the blues were purer, better, IMO. It didn't seem to be as stable/long lived, but it was a sweet, sweet film. That applies to both the ASA 50 (Agfa proprietary chemistry) and 64 (E-6) films. The 50 was extremely pleasing, IMO.

Thank you - this is exactly the information I needed! The stuff I almost bought is the Agfa Vista PLUS, but if it's grainy then I shall forget it.

:bang: WHY O WHY did Fuji discontinue REALA 100 :bang:

Pinafore, thanks. Actually, I think I'll try a couple of rolls based on your photo.

The colour pallete and saturation of the film appear to be somewhat limited, but in a pleasant way. I do sometimes find Fuji Superia films a bit over the top in the magenta and red areas.

If you dig up the datasheets of AgfaPhoto Vista 200, and Fuji Superia 200, you'll find an uncanny resemblance in the specs.. Stronger still, you'll find an uncanny resemblance in portions of the text, as in copied verbatim.

The datasheet of AgfaPhoto Vista 200 Plus has been reworded in a couple of places, but somehow, I still can't shake loose the impression of these two films being identical..

+1.

The current AgfaPhoto films are made by Fuji. Exception is only the AgfaPhoto APX 100, which ist still the old stuff from the last coatings in Leverkusen in 2005.
Ferrania stopped film production in 2009. They could not compete against Fuji, Kodak, Lucky, Agfa-Gevaert.

If on your AgfaPhoto Vista 100 plus "Made in Japan" is written, than it is Fujicolor 100.
And that is a very good film. A bit grainier than Ektar 100, but much sharper and with much better resolution.
This Fujicolor 100 is one of the 'hidden pearls' of the market.
It has been available only in some markets.

Cheers, Jan

Wow, thanks for this information - I will certainly give it a try in any case.

HHPhoto.

So is it Fujicolor and not Superior?

Do you happen to know who makes the Agfa branded E6 film CT Precisa 100?

Thanks

AFAIK the ISO 100 version, yes.

That is now also made by Fuji, looks almost identical to Fuji Provia. Probably it is Fuji Trebi, the amateur version of Provia, which so far has only been available on the Japanese market.

Cheers, Jan

Yes, I know. About $3.50 a roll, if I buy 100 rolls, plus shipping from Japan. Thanks but no thanks.

The Spanish link is interesting, though. I hadn't heard about them before.

At the moment, I'm well stocked with 200 speed Fuji from clearance sales, and Wal-Mart still carries 400 at $8 and change for the 4-pack. Probably time to stash some of that away, too.
