Ah, !@#$ it, I have GAS.

But the games are the fun part! We could even have a due date pool...whoever guesses the closest gets a signed print of the baby. :D

Well... 83 posts later and you have decided. Now... have fun shopping, Stephanie! I saw today an M2 going really low on eBay. Won't tell you how much, but it even made me think very, very hard about clicking on the BIN button...

Not that my Dad's a great (or even good) photographer, but the polaroids of me and my sister as kids are some of my favorites of all time--so don't get fixated on the equipment.

You don't have to have a great camera or even be a great photog--the kid will like it because you took it.

I know how much, I'm watching it. ;)

I won't be buying for at least three weeks, maybe a month, and I'm still thinking. I'll probably keep talking with Stephen about possibly getting a lens to go with the M2, but I'm not counting chickens before they're hatched...I have to know exactly what I'm going to have left first. If I can't get a CV lens of some kind I'll most likely go with a J8 or J3. Or perhaps even a Canon 50mm f/1.4. I also thought about the fact that a 35mm lens may be the best idea, but I wasn't sure of whether or not a J-12 works on a Leica or what the cost of the Canon 35mm lenses are these days.

I still have some research to do, as you can see. :p

But anyway, medical expenses are taken care of. I'll have $1500 in the bank by the time I have the baby and Adam will also have some.
Medical expenses in the US must be realy cheap......

But seriously...Nikon FE + sleeping baby = awake and crying baby. If for nothing else, the Leica would excel at sleeping baby photos. ;)
Speaking from my experience, if the baby IS sleeping, you can have all the noise you can and he/she will not wakeup.

I see you have made your mind to buy the camera.
But before you do it, please take the time and make a realistic budget of you expenses on the first 2 or 3 months after having the baby. Thats my advice.
I spent more than that $1500 with the baby and mother on the firsts months, and i didnt pay for the "delivery" nor the regular visit to the pediatric doctor nor all the exams you'll need before and after because i'm insured (that 3 items alone would be more than that here in Portugal).

Seems that it's maybe late, but in fact I only have three short words to say on this, save the money. And then two more, good luck.

Oh well, go ahead - it's your money and your child. But I always thought the true reason people bought Leica cameras was the glass. And Pedro is right, kids are *not* cheap, especially their medical bills. My neighbor sure has a tough time with her newborn kid.

Somehow I can't help thinking that you'll be looking back on this a few years from now and say "I can't believe I was spending so much time online obsessing about getting a camera!"

But it's your life and your decision.
