Depends on what you are shooting photos of, but probably not. Although my personal opinion is that nothing beats b/w film printed on b/w paper. Still, most people are quite happy with c41 b/w film printed on paper optimized for that film.
I am curious about one thing though. You mention taking the back off and rewinding the film. I hope you mean you did that in complete darkness. Of course, since it appears to have been a development problem, it is a moot point this time.
