Ahh! The Unique Leica Satisfaction.

I had my M6 and CZ 35/2 Biogon with me yesterday in Old Montreal . There were just some incredible images to be had at Notre Dame cathedral as the church emptied from a huge wedding. Women in all their attire encapsulated in winters fury. Unfortunately, those images will have to live in my minds eye. There was no way I was pulling my camera out in that weather...in fact I was cursing myself for not bringing my Canon 1v. However, after seeing the condition of your Leica, me thinks these can withstand much more abuse than I would have expected.

I certainly want to see these pictures as well!

Ottawa was under a pure assault this morning. My Olympus XA2 also survived...from the comfort of my garage. =p
 
My MP & M6 survived a similar snowstorm 3 years ago in NYC. That's when you distinguish between tools and toys :D :D :D .
 
Nice to see a Leica being used as the camera gods, if not the "Leica God", intended.:)

Just a note about condensation, which chikne mentioned (I haven't had occasion to try this but it makes perfect sense): if you put the camera in a ziploc bag when you come in from the cold that should prevent condensation forming inside and on the camera.

The fogging of viewfinders and lenses that you see when you come in is from the warm humid indoor air which condenses when it comes into contact with the surfaces of your cold camera. If the camera is in a sealed bag then any condensation that forms will be on the outside of the bag and your camera stays nice and dry while its temperature adjusts to the indoors.

i've never shot with my Leica in light rain or big storm. are the leica lenses weatherproof/sealed ? i'm asking because i do not have any hood or filter. How do you shoot when it's raining cats and dogs outside ? Do you use a hood , or you have a special technique ?
 
Love those disposable cameras. Only kidding. I'v shot the M6 in very heavy rain numerous times with no consequences since 1991. 2 cla's, last in 2007.
 
Brrr. I know how it is. It got down into the 50s! the other night!

Well, as much as I like my Leicas, I know a Nikon RF can handle those kind of conditions, too ;) :

So Ned, you got pictures from that snow day yet? Can't wait to see what came out. Oh, and hope your camera and lens are Ok too.
 
Man, I hate this winter! My car is parked in the backstreet under 6 feet of snow. My backyard door doesn't open anymore. I was going to take my wife's car so I could go into my studio's darkroom but I was stuck. I have these 4 films burning my pocket and I can't wait to develop them. I hope before theweek-end but I can't guarantee anything because, apparently, we're supposed to receive even more snow.

And supposedly, on the 20th of march, it is rumored to we'll get anywhere from 40 cm to 90cm. If so is the case, I will probably have to call bankruptcy or something like it because there is no chance my Triplex' roof will stand the weight.

But my gear is all right, thanks for asking ;-)
 
Hi Ned ! Seems you have lots of snow this year... :eek: How's the Rapidwinder ?

My Noctilux is at Leica for servicing ... The hood is to tight at temperatures around - 15 degree and the front part of the lens became a little loose after to often mounting / demounting it ... :bang: I hope that your gear survived the snow !!!

I see that you use rapidfinder. I suppose that larger camera (m with rapidw) is easier to handle with noctilux, right? I have a original half case from M4. this seems like gonna be a good "thickening" thing to M body so it'd be easier handle heavier lenses. It is very easy hold the camera with one hand with firm support of leather edges. So I imagine now how it'd be like to handle heavier lenses.

Do you bring cameras directly inside from outside without any fancy stuffs as ziplock or bag? I just wonder if M can handle the condensation in long time
 
maddoc, oh that is bad regarding your nocti. Looks like the new model is good alternative to prevent such problems?
