Air Bubbles sticking to new Paterson System 4 reels

An unusual problem to come up with new reels.

Perhaps there's some stainless available locally on the used market. Do you have something like our Craig's List in Denmark--a website with used items for sale in various regions? Of course there's always eBay.

Stainless tanks and reels were pretty much the standard when darkroom work was normal practice. There should be lots of them no longer in use and possibly for sale at good prices. Just beware of the potential for bent reels or cheap reels with poor surfaces.

Not many users of stainless steel in Denmark, so our "craigslist" doesn't have them. Most common is Paterson tanks.

Ebay mostly lists stainless steel tanks from outside Europe, unfortunately. HEWE is in UK, and sells brand new reels, so when I track down some tanks, I'll switch.

For now I'm switching to JOBO 1500.

Did the bubbles ever actually impact on the exposed area of a negative?

If they did (possibly they didn't?) I would just throw these in the recycling and get some different ones. There are those newer third party ones around with an added tab that make 120 loading more straightforward. I can't say I ever had a problem with them.

Spending big dollars on JOBO equipment on the basis of a couple of dud $10 plastic reels seems a bit extreme to me.

Yes, image in an earlier post shows the shadows from the bubbles along the edge of the image.

These where 6 (six) brand new reels, just bought, and all six had the same problem. I don't expect to just toss them, but to return them as defective (either by design or production, since I'm not the only one with this issue.)

OK, read through this thread and I can't help but think:

Michael needs to join the ranks of happy blissful stainless tank/reel users.

Doesn't someone here at RFF have some SS tanks/reels (ostensibly in the US) that they could provide to Michael? Put another way: Would it still be so darn expensive if I sold Michael a tank/reel for cheap and sent it to Denmark? (I'm in US) Wouldn't be lying to state a small value on the customs form. In this scenario, the only expensive bit seems like it would be the shipping.

I say this because its true there is a fair amount of SS around here in the US. I see tanks and reels in the thrift shops now and then. I see them on the local craigslist too. I can easily pick up a 1-reel SS tank (1 reel of 120 film, 2 reels of 35 film) just about any time. However, the 120 reels are less common, and I only have one in my supplies. I still see them from time to time.

Can we help Michael? I suspect we could.

Thats kind of you, and much appreciated.

For now I've settled on JOBO, although more expensive than Paterson, and more readily available tha steel tanks here in Denmark.
