Excellent. Thanks for the update. I especially like this tiny detail:
Barry University photography program is committed to maintaining the tradition of film-based photography and darkroom technique.

digitalintrigue, who has been holding the funds we collected from RFF members in a PayPayl account forwarded them Jonathan Kaplan tonight for donation to the scholarship fund. anyone wishing to make a donation from here forward should visit Al's blogsite (http://thepriceofsilver.blogspot.com/) for information about donating directly to the scholarship in Al's name at Barry University.
Thanks to Robert (digitalintrigue) for playing banker for all of us during this process. And thanks to all the donors from Jonathan Kaplan and his family. A job well done by all in honor of our friend, mentor and curmudgeonly presence on RFF.

Thank you all for your very positive response to my post here. I don't know how to get it on the RFF "banner headline" on the home page, but all of you are great. Al was entrenched in film photography right to the end, even after years of me encouraging him to try digital. I helped him digitize his film images for many years to post on his blog. Now, maybe with this scholarship, we can keep film rangefinder imaging alive, in his memory. Please contribute. Blessings, Todd

I'm bleeding cash at a furious rate due to employment issues. Can someone set a link somewhere that will stick around so that when I'm flush I can contribute?

Very fitting indeed. Below is the paragraph on film and digital approaches to photography from the photography program page.
"As you compare programs from different universities, you may find that many schools are shutting down their darkrooms to concentrate solely on digital photography. Barry is committed to maintaining the tradition of film and the darkroom, while offering the latest advances in the digital medium. You will have the opportunity to explore and experiment, combining vintage techniques with cutting-edge digital technology to achieve hybrid results. We believe that there is no need for us to choose one over the other; they're both complimentary components of photography. As such, you can choose to focus on either one, or both."
I'm sure Al would agree with this balanced perspective.

Peter n...thank you for posting that statement from Barry University. I've tried to put into words the complimentary harmony between film and digital imaging without much success. They said it perfectly. Al would agree IMO.
