this is a serie of documentary about albert khan, from the first part of the XX century.
He was quite rich (a banker) and decided to create a photographical archive concerning people all over the world. Worked with movies camera and autochromes.

This man is very interesting. He operated under the belief that people would treat other cultures in other countries humanely if they could see them in color. So he sent his photographers around the world.
Unfortunately, his fortune was ruined by the economic depression of the 1930s. I don't think he had a lot left when he died in 1940. You can still visit his house and gardens in the suburbs of Paris. There are some of the autochromes on display there.

There is a book out on the collection as part of the BBC series. I don't see DVDs of the show available though.
