Just released and DPreview have tested it to be a fair bit faster with all the models. The e-lp1 is as fast or faster than the panasonic g1 now. e-p1 and e-p2 are close behind.
Haven't downloaded it yet but will in the next half hour. Interested to hear what others say.

^Definitely notice the improvement on the e-p1. Seems like the lens/camera doesn't rack in and out as much when focusing and now it just cuts to the chase and locks focus (with a hiccup every now and then of course). I only use the 20mm, but I'm curious as to how my e-p1 with the updated firmware stacks up against the GF1+20mm.

Brilliant update! My E-P1 with 14-42 is so much faster now..sadly i'm using OM lens 95% of the time..

The Pen 1 & Pen 2 are much more accurate.
The speed increase is about what they said.
With the 17, you really feel the difference.
With the 20 , you feel it also.
With the Panny 14-45 it's very good also.
My manual lenses have no change at all. I need to grease the fingers more.
The big improvement I see is really in low light/contrast.
Much much better with all lenses.

So far I am not seeing low light improvement but I never saw it as much of a problem anyway.
With the 14-42 there is a little faster focus speed on the wide (not so noticeable) and much faster focus speeds on the long end.
As already said it seems to hunt less. There is a feeling when it finds the in focus point it is going past it only a little then returning to the point rather then the old feeling of it passing through the whole focus range.
All in all a successful update, but I still wish it could just go to the in focus point like my 5D rather than hunt around it.

Now I'm convinced my E-PL1 + 20mm fills all of my digital camera needs at the moment.

Updating with the new updater was a breeze on my E-P1.
And indeed......it focusses faster and more positive with my 17 MM and 14-42 MM. Less hunting, even in low light conditions. Thanks Olympus for not forgetting the first generation Pen users.

Wow - My E-P2 LCD doesn't have the extreme noise in low light anymore. Let's say it's a lot better - less streaking in low light. I love Olympus - the first 35mm camera I owned was an OM1 back in 1976. After going Canon then Nikon through the years, I'm back...
BTW does anyone know where I can get a Nikon RF S to m4/3 adapter. I have a collection of old Nikon RF lenses.

Yeah downloaded the new firmware on my e-p1 last night... My only lens is the 17mm pancake and it does indeed focus quite a bit faster and more definitively. It's actually pretty scary how low light it will focus in.
Alls well!

I'm having trouble with the update. I installed the update software and followed the instructions but it is just staying on the "updating the firmware... do not disconnect.." Nothing on the screen of the camera like it says should be happening on the olympus website. Anyone got any suggestions?

I also had trouble, first time I've had issues updating Oly firmware. Typically it hasn't taken more than a few minutes per item to update. But today I got constant error messages, either "can't locate camera" or "can't locate server." This was after the software found both the body and the server enough to know which model body was connected and which updates were available for it. How it could figure that out but not allow updating baffled me.
Tried both Master 2 and Digital Camera Updater, 5 or 6 times each, same result. Thinking it might be related to Oly's servers being busy, I waited till later in the day and it finally worked.
So I stopped being a fan of online updating today, and wish Oly would go to a card-based firmware update scheme, like most others do.
Haven't had any time to play much post-update, but E-P1 w/17-2.8 AF does seem a bit faster.....

Ok Salleh,
Thank you I will leave it plugged in for longer this time. I waited about 10-15 mins and then figured something was up so I shut it down

I got "can't locate camera" too, if you disconnect then re connect & press the OK button when the top option on the screen appears it seemed to work fine. Ran the updates for the E-P2 and Panasonic 20mm - big improvement in AF speed. Excellent to have the immediate capture appear on the LCD rather than the EVF too.

The update went fine on my E-P2 too. I heard something about being able to get the menu up on the LCD while viewing the image in the EVF. Anyone know how to do this?

I gotta say, I was on the street last night.
Exp about 1/8 sec @ 1.7 with the 20.
The Pen 2 focused almost immediately without hesitation.
The Pen 1 with the 17 was just about as good.
I'm happy.....

No problems with my upgraded E-P1. My two Lumix lenses focus slightly faster. Hope this is all the preparation required for the M.Zuiko 14-150mm ED about to be released...

Updated my ep1 to the 1.4 firmware. Faster, quieter, smoother. It only took a few minutes from start to finish.

The update went well for me, but I don't understand why Oly can't just let you put the damn firmware update on the card like everyone else.
