All the different Sonnars 1.5?

Ok, found a brass shim between the 2 parts of the lens, "exactly" 1mm thick. So the idea is to replace it with one that's what, 0.5mm, right? (to start with)

That makes sense. With my cardboard shim, I appear to have added about .5mm to go from Contax to Nikon S, and you're going in the opposite direction. So you'd do the equivalent of the carboard shim but without the brass one too.

If you have a locking cable release, you can set the Kiev on B and hold the shutter open while doing the scotch-tape lens test I mentioned above. Sure beats trial-and-error with film.

A fun weekend project, thank you Vince and Brian for your help. Btw, the scotch tape idea is ingenious.

Cement separation not affecting images

Cement separation not affecting images

The 50/1.5 Sonnar with cement separation seems to be performing OK. It was raining when I tried it outside, i.e. no bright sun to test for flare, but otherwise test shots taken indoors and outdoors seem to come out ok (on a Kiev 4am, 400 film, no meter, "quick-and-dirty" shots).

On the 13.5 cm Nikkor lens, I tested the focus on my Kiev 4am as Vince suggested (candle light and scotch tape) and, amazingly, the film plane and rangefinder patch focus was achieved concurrently with the original(?) ~1mm brass shim in place. I am now half way through with a test roll, hoping it works 🙂

135 Nikkor S-mount + Kiev 4am = a great team

135 Nikkor S-mount + Kiev 4am = a great team

Well, the results are in. Without changing the shim on the Nikon mount Nikkor 135mm lens, since it seemed to focus ok on my Kiev 4am (Vince's scotch tape and candle test), I took some shots and am liking this lens a lot. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed handling this little outfit quite a bit and will probably use it much more in the future. Of course, now that I've tried the 135/3.5 Nikkor, I wonder just how much better the 105/2.5 Nikkor might be...
