All you have is Rodinal and Delta 400...

If all you have is Rodinal developer and Delta 400 film, how do you approach developing? This is what I've got to work with for now. I tried doing semi-stand at 1:100, agitating five inversions every five minutes. Although I don't hate the results, I'm a bit unsatisfied with how gray the tonality of the images are, and the lack of shadow detail in some images. What should I have done differently?

I like the tones in the last two photos, but the first two look muddy.

To be honest, I wouldn't start with semi stand. If you've only got rodinal then I'd start at 1+25, agitate 10 inversions on fill and then 4 every minute and whatever time the rodinal or ilford box tells you. Play with a bit more exposure nd a bit less development to try and open up the shadps a bit and then print on harder paper or increase contrast in photoshop if your scanning.

Then try 1+50 to compare.

Tried Ilford in Rodinal and had muddy shots as well. Either that or too grainy.

I abandoned the combo. Nowadays I use RolleiRetro 100, TMax 100/400 and Fomapan 100/200/400 with Rodinal. The ease of Rodinal did it for me, I changed film.

Ilford Delta emulsions are new emulsions using the "Core-shell crystal technology" and I don't think Rodinal is the optimum developer for Delta films. You will have better results using Ilford's DD-X or Ilfosol 3.

I know it really isn't optimal. It just happens to be what I have on hand for the time being, so I thought I would experiment with it.
