I know others have had various experiences, but today, I received my M8 in the mail. I had asked for it on a certain date, and it came early. The repair cost me nothing, even though my warranty expired a few weeks before I brought the camera to Allendale NJ. Shipping cost nothing as well.
I just filled out the card evaluating the service. I had no complaints at all.
I told them I would buy another digital M (M9?) and that my hope was for much better ISO performance in the next generation digital M.

I was in Allendale today.
I bought an M8 a week and half ago, but couldn't wait for my IR filters to arrive from Germany, so Leica was kind enough to loan me what I needed while I travel on big anniversary trip to Paris with my Mrs. (wouldn't want her to suffer from a magenta cast). No charge, no fuss.
I know their turnaround time is sometimes slow, but I think one has to consider the nature of the beast. If you're into something like high-end Swiss watches (years ago, I ran the service division of the largest specialty watch retailer in the US, so unfortnately, I know about life on the other side of the counter, too), you know that repair times can be a pain in the .... That said, Leica has always done well by me, in warranty or out. Of course, last year, I got an out of warranty freebie on a new sensor for a Digilux 2 because the originals were defective. The turnaround time was lousy, but they stood behind to product. Since I'm a rank amateur and don't earn my bread from this, I'm satisfied. For you pros, I understand why you need something better.

Well, I am a bit relieved to read that other M8 users have had fair experience with Leica NJ. My M8 is there now getting the splatter of shutter-flicked lubricant cleaned off its sensor and the frame lines upgrade. The staff seems courteous, but very slow (even to answer the telephone). I guess I expect small miracles given the absurd pricing for the upgrade, but perhaps that lofty amount was set by the retailers who want to sell new M8.2's.
I hope to able to add a favorable final report around mid-April... and someday a fulsome report about a new 21mm SX.
