I think it's the light.

The M2 is what caught my eye first. I wasn't going to post that one until it was over just in case something happened and I fell into money tomorrow...but then came back to reality. 😀

I also wait until the last seconds to bid. It’s call snipping, sitting out there, waiting and watching. Knowing your price, your refresh speed (how fast your computer is responding and the link to ebay). At the last few seconds you place your bid, hoping to catch folks off guard with knowing you want it. I do it a lot, unless I have stuff I have to do elsewhere at the end of the auction. By in large I have had very good luck doing this. Only screwed up a few times when I did not keep track of time or the fact I was on a slower computer. Not the end of the world, there’s almost always another one of anything popping up on ebay in a week or a month.

I agree that they both do look like great users. He has some other good stuff too (IIIc which is a fine little camera).

See, I wouldn't care about that engraving. Then again, I'd be using the camera too much to think about it. 😉

I think the M2 is going to go as well. The M3 I'm almost sure will go.

A camera with a name..

A camera with a name..

Maybe its the name of the camera....some people name their cars so why not their cameras? 🙂 Outta my price range though...I have bought to many new cameras lately!

You know, you could simply take a label with YOUR name and stick it over the other name. Or just place a piece of black tape over it. That's what I'd do. Who know, maybe I will!

It looks like a great user camera. I could care less about the name, and besides, at least it was nicely engraved instead of "electro-penciled" on there. You might want to check the other auctions of the person selling the M3, as they have quite a few other LTM/M mount Leicas for auction right now.

I'd love to have the M2. I'm okay with not being able to afford it, however. The gods deem me unworthy. Or something. 😉

If Leicas keep going down I may go back to the original idea of buying one next year. I just shot off a few 'around the house' pics for the thread and I'm going to develop them soon. Man...I'm going to be tired.

I used to snipe stuff on eBay but the tension of the last couple of minutes was too much for me! Now if I see something that appeals to me I decide what I would be prepared to pay for it .... place the bid and leave it alone. If I miss it ... I miss it ... there'll be others!

One night before heading off to bed I saw a IIIf Red Dial with self timer and a collapsable 50mm Summicron and case, that all looked dirty but original. Placed a bid for $350.00 and hit the hay, only to discover the next morning that it was mine !!!!

When it arrived, incredibly, it was unmarked and completely original..... It's on it's way to Youxin Ye for a CLA currently!

Look forward to seeing those pics Stephanie. I dont know, IM just not trusting ebay these days after getting burned once or twice buying stuff, though these 2 cameas do look like possible users. I just sold a pic for a book cover and that money is going towards a used m4 from Kim Coxon when the check comes in.

Most you would pay for the M2?

I'd like a user, so if there isn't anyone here interested, don't bid! 🙂

I trawled eBay for quite a while until I picked up an M2 for around $400.00 US with a few small dings and a dragging shutter and some mising vulcanite on the rear door. I had seen a lot of others go for$700.00 to $800.00 .... a bit prettier though!

It's also on it's way to Youxin Ye for a CLA and rangefinder realignment costing around $100.00 He's also going to replace the vinyl on the rear door so the end result will be a good clean looking user for around $500.00

🙂

I almost never bid until the final hours. Why encourage a bidding war by revealing your hand early?
You are correct. There are two kinds of bidders I can't stand: the 7-day-early war bidder (why? why?!?); the other is the Deep-pockets-last-3-seconds-Sniper.

They should put some safetyguards so that only people who have bid earlier (say, at least an hour before the end of the auction) can do last-minute bidding. I'm sure the proposition would be as divisive as teaching real science in the classroom, but that would encourage true bidding, and discourage vultures.
