almost fixed my nettar, ready to give up

Sorry I could not find what I was after by searching...
same old story, got a cheap nettar 515/2 folder off ebay, in ratty condition of course, nothing working like its meant to.
I fixed the shutter, the lens had an element in backwards, bellows seems ok, but now I am down to the front standard. Are these supposed to lock in nice and square? I cant even see how it is meant to. It has about 3mm of tilt , or if I force it back the other way, about 1mm. Is this fixable or have I got another decoration for my studio? This lens is not particularly great from what I can tell anyway.

not sure that i can be of much help Andrew, as I havnt had to fix/dismantle one of those

but the front standard should lock in nice and square. also the front bed should lock in place firmly. with those type of Zeiss folders the two shorter looking chrome (or black) struts at the back are tightly sprung and help lock it in place, those you press on (against the springs) to un-hitch them from their locking position where they are clicked into the longer chrome horizontal struts. perhaps they are not engaging into their correct position to let the front standard sit square....

i hope it helps or leads you to the problem


oh and its probably worth saying that a pretty good rule to go by, is not to 'force' things eh..but frustration can get the better of us. another usefull tip that nobody passes on is that all the good cameras are in a well kept secret section of ebay, the ebay section where 99.9999999999999999 people get there cameras from , is the junk section!! 😉🙄😀 jk

I thought that all looked ok but I will check it more thoroughly. It seems truer with the bellows off, like the bellows is pulling it back maybe.
About that secret section of ebay, I have managed to sell plenty of stuff there.

Ah yes too true, if the bellows have become stiff it can adversly affect the opening. a little leather treatment cream, or i have used small amounts of water applied with a Q tip in a pinch to make them more plyable

A rubber/vinyl treatment will work better, since the bellows is not leather. A very few of the tire-wetting agents, like "Black Magic" and "Armor-all," work well for this. Just rub enough of it off afterward so it doesn't shine like patent leather.

Ah fair enough, ...for some reason i was assuming they used leather on their whole range of camera
