Almost new owner of a GSN

Hi all, I just bought a GSN, not here yet but I can't wait. I hope everything is OK with it, if not I've read the Yashica forum well enough to know who to send it to. Everyone has spoken highly of his skill and know that it if I need help I will know where to turn.

Back in 1975, while in high school I was given my first 35mm, a Yashica rangefinder. On a kayak trip I lost it in a river a few years later, I sure miss that camera. I have no idea of the model and have looked high and low for a replacement. All I can really offer about it's description is I could shoot in full manual, adjusting both shutter and apeture and that if I remember correctly it had some sort of light meter. I seem to remember a needle matching system like the Canon AE1 but I'm not sure. If anyone has any idea as to what model it could have been I'd appreciate it, sure would be great to have a little of my past back. In any event I'm sure I'll love the GSN.

It sounds as if it might be the Lynx or the Minister D. Why don't you check http://www.yashica-guy.com/ web site. He has pictures of I think all the Yashica cameras and maybe you'll recognize it.

Thanks Richard I'll do that. I've looked on that site before but I didn't pay real close attention to the Minister. I got my battery thing for the GSN from him. The name Minister does sound familiar though.

It's always nice for a camera to find an almost new owner. I suspect my cameras would rate me a "user" user 🙂

lol I would consider me just in "user" condition, after all I've read about the GSN I bought I'm having these nightmares about POD.

I'm happy you found it. I have a Yashica J but it spends most of its time on the shelf. It doesn't have a meter and it doesn't have the lens that the Electros have.

Thanks Richard, I found out the model now all I have to do is find one for sale. I like that it doesn't have a meter, makes it simple.

Very good that you're getting the GSN. The lens is an optical treasure. What I did with mine (after a light seal kit and the battery adapter from yashica_guy) was put the rest of my cameras out of sight, locked up actually, and pretend that this was my only camera. Schlep it around all day, every day, for about two weeks and shoot lots of film with it. In my opinion it's the best way to get to know a camera, because during that time you'll figure out its idiosyncrasies (and maybe it'll figure you out!), and operating it will become second nature.

Thanks Ted, I'm looking forward to using it. I always carry my Retina so maybe I'll put it away and take your advice. I also have this little camera called a Paxette but it's being CLA'ed.
