In the past, I've walked through the drug store trying various pill bottle caps and such. But now everything is plastic wrapped...
Any particular sundry items that just happen to be a perfect fit for your vintage 1930-40s 50/3.5 Elmar and the like?
Why doesn't that Heavystar guy on eBay make something?

I'll second this, I just want a do-able hood for my Summar, not a precious collectors item.
I'm definitely on the dyspraxic spectrum however, so any suggestions need to be simple in execution.

You could try this ebay seller:

I've dealt with him before and been happy with the service and the items.
And I just noticed this at FEDKA's store:
36mm lens cap
Another good guy to deal with.

I found....
I found....
some sort of black plastic fittings at a hardware store (in the plastic plumbing supply section) that fit my Summar/Elmars & filters with no modification. I did use sandpaper to dull the inside of the fitting, and bought a couple of them. No vignetting at all, though I reduced the length of the one I use on my 35/3.5 Elmar.
The particular fitting I found has a very thin inside rim that's initially a tight fit. I found they work best when used with push-on filters, otherwise they'll get canted or slide all the way past the front of the lens. I'm sure that if you don't use a filter you could modify them or just take care.
Take your camera to the hardware/plumbing supply store...it worked for me! If I get the time later today I'll post pics.

I was lucky when I bought my hood. There were two perfect samples on ebay at the time attracting all of the attention, and my little buddy, looking all used and stuff just sat there until I won it with a $25 bid.
