Alternate reaility Christmas - limits of IS

Mark, thanks for the post. I enjoyed reading the text about the hotel. I love discovering places like the Gadson. Your images, and your impressions of the place, remind me of the Hotel Congress in Tucson. Staying at these old hotels is a great way to get a real taste of the history and culture of the towns in which they're located.

I felt sad and lonely looking at the photos: rich warm colors, American standards of comfort and . . . emptiness . . . no one there. We are all off along the highways pursuing something or other -- real or virtual. Your first paragraph tells the story: we don't even remember what we have tried to become, what a republic meant, before great wealth and power gave rise to the illusion of endless self-making.

Thanks guys and happy New Year! It will be interesting to see where it takes us!!! :)

Since I've been combining my writing and my photography, it really seems to be a common observation that the writing helps the photography. I'm been thinking of this and wondering if I'm just not that good at conveying what I want to say with my photography or whether what I'm trying to say is just very hard to convey with photography alone. Luckily for me, I enjoy both and derive great creative satifaction from exploring both.

:)

Your writing and your photography are both interesting, with the right balance between description and emotion.

Thanks Robert! I like thinking about the balance between description and emotion... kind of like the observer and the response.
