looking through my m-6 just now.. within the rectangular focus area, when i bring one line into focus something else in the same plane goes out of focus... all within the rectangular area.... does that make sense... :)

it appears that everything is on the same plane of focus..( ie start and end of line are equal distances..) what are the symptoms when a rangefinder are out of alignment?

Hi!

When I dropped my M6 years ago (and a bus ran over it) the two rectangles that form the measuring field didn't overlap any more.

But it was still working.... one dent and the rangefinder out of kilter, but functional. I was in Africa at the time, so I used it for three weeks and the pics were fine.

There doesn't have to be much difference in distance at all for this kind of thing to happen. At a closer distance, less than a centimetre is sufficient. You'd need to conduct a formal test with the camera tripod mounted and precisely perpendicular to a flat subject to see if anything is wrong. :bang: ;)
