Am I the only one who likes every kind of gear?

I've at one time owned something in just about every film format up to 4x5, and have used most of them (nothing in 70mm). I see camera gear as tools to achieve the outcome I am looking for when photographing something. I also like to know I can get just as good results with an Agfa or Zorki, as someone with more expensive gear. But that's just because I can't afford the more expensive gear.:D

I like all different types of cameras, but not all cameras. Some just seem to click a lot more then others.

After reading more systematically this forum for a while I was wondering: am I the only person here who likes all kind of gear? It seems like there are people who only shots film, other only cameras with VF, others cannot stand a large DSLR so I was wondering that maybe I am a weirdo because I really like everything.

Nope, you aren't. I like different kinds of gear --not *all*, there are some that are just a pain or not pleasant to use.

Many people treat a type, kind, brand or style as a "team": you're either with it or against it. To each their own.

Then there are those who feel threatened by what they don't understand or refuse to understand (i.e. film vs. digital), or their comfort zone (i.e. flower vs. street photography). Same thing with gear: it's either Team Nikon, Team anti-Leica, Team Neopan...etc. Some are more into the "Go Team, Boo The Other Team" aspect of it.

Then there's those who take each thing as they are, not for what they aren't.

Cheers!

Weeew...I feel better now... :)

Just one comment, of course I am not using "all cameras" or doing "all kind of photography" but I have nothing against anything, or at least even if I have some bad opinion of something I still try to give a look and almost always I have to reconsider. There are things I will probably never do, such as getting a Holga or a Lomo but I have a lot of respect for those who go that way, other things I can do but really don't enjoy such as model's books and then what I do better and more often like still life or food or just playing around with a camera and see what comes out. My post was just motivated by all the dogmata I read such as: only natural light, only film, no Photoshop, only fixed focal length lenses...

My avatar says it all. LOL

My friend John thinks I define the term "Gear Whore."

BTW my favorite camera seems to be the one in my hands in any given moment. This is a real problem. LOL.

Don't see the problem, I know a lot of people who think the perfect camera is the one they don't have yet and that's a problem! :D

I agree totally unbiased camera love for all or go home !!

My sig is far from my complete collection but there is a character limit...

i've always had a problem with the selling any of my cameras and only recently sold 3 out of over 70 cameras. This was to finance my recent impulse buy of an m3 and summarit.
I am still troubled i sold the super isolette but am trying to convince myself that my recently serviced gs645 is far more practical if not equally fragile (probably more so.)
There is also the knowledge that unless used even freshly cla'd cameras will gum up sometimes in surprisingly time. So there is the guilt factor if you dont use a particular
camera. Each system has its strong points, like i feel fine using my oly 35rc at the beach but not my contax or leica.
In the end I secretly like the idea of just having my lf gear ... and maybe the M3DS and 2.8 rolleiflex but then the RZ gets used almost every week, and the contax g lenses can look almost mf with careful workflow .. and my c/y mount gear has a 100 macro and great 24mm that I dont have covered by the contax g system .. and i need my diacords for when I dont want to haul the expensive rolleiflex about .. and i probably have too many duplicate focal lengths in LF but who wants to change lens mount board every time you pick up a different camera .. and its always nice to have 2 of the same cameras one with 50-100 asa and one with hp-5 at 800 ..

When I need a monkey wrench I don't worry about the brand, I just want one that fits the job. Some are Porches and some are jalopies but not one type or brand will do what I need to do every time.

For years only used one type.

Life was all consuming. Over the past several years I have re-examined life style and slowed down and pursued a couple of areas of interest that I enjoy, photography being one of them.

With my daughters college education paid for I have accumulated a few systems over the last three or four years. I enjoy the variety and do not know where I will end up.

As they say it is the journey and not the destination.

35mm to 8x10" for me, plus digital. I have my preferences depending on the particular project and what I want to achieve.

In my 50 plus years of using photographic equipment I have used roll film, sheet film, plates and digital in various formats from miniature to 11x14. Presently I have it narrowed down to 35mm, 6x6 folder, 6x4.5 slr, compact digital and dslr.

I haven't found a format that I disliked. I also love the ability to craft the images that I want with the various formats. And last but not least, I love the fine craftsmanship of a well designed and constructed camera.

I've always loved photography and gear!, and believe that any camera can make beautiful photographs under the right conditions and in the right hands. Its in the process, a good eye, and communication with your equipment. Any camera can be fun. Three memories come to mind…

Going on holiday with a friend's family when I was 14 years old, the father was a 'photographer' with a Rolleiflex in tow, and I felt I had to apologise for my Kodak Brownie. He said, "some of my best photographs were with a Brownie I once had." True or not, it did make me 'think', and the idea that any camera is capable has its merits.

What made me want my first Leica at 16 was a girlfriend's father, how he handled his M4 was pure 'dance/art', and he wasn't a bad photographer either. Started a lifelong love affair with Leica.

The other story… Making photographs in Kyoto of a traditional Imperial Court procession years ago I saw a guy with a couple of Bessa cameras having a great time. Even though a low priced option to my Leica, just showed there was no price on having fun (and those cameras and lenses are not giving anything up either).

You know what it just hit me. Why I like this place over other forums even though I have almost quit using film. There are no fan boys and brand bashing going on here. Just people that love photography and want to share their knowledge and learn something themselves.
Even is someone doesn't like a specific brand they are respectful about it. Kudos RFF.

I don't even own a working range finder camera anymore, but this is still my favorite camera/photography forum for just that reason.

I love cameras and photography and here's what I use. The ones in the display case like Alpa, old Leicas, Nikon RFs, Canon screw mounts, Pentax Auto 110 I'm not counting.
I shoot with Leicaflexes, M4, M3, M2, Hasselblad 500C/M, Rolleiflex 3.5 Tessar, Fuji 690GS and GSW (had them out yesterday).
The big Fujis are a hoot to shoot and deliver really great images. Fuji lenses are first rate-most TV cameras use Fujinons.
And a Sony NEX5N with many lenses via adapters.
