Get a nice Fed 2, a late one such as the 2d. You wont regret it. I've had mine since I bought it on a school trip to Leningrad in the early 60's. Its still going strong.

Having read through several websites on FSU cameras, it seems there is a general feeling that Zorkis were better-quality cameras than FEDs. It seems that the Zorkis were actually in some ways succesors to the FEDs or at least out-lasted them in manufacture. But I see quite a few 'love letters' regarding FEDs. Any feedback?

Not totally true, certainly very early Feds are pretty rough. Fed lasted longer than Zorki, they have stopped manufacture now, but they are still available new from at least one London dealer who sell the 5, 5B and 5C for £50 to £60. There have been no new Zorkis since about 1990.

No problem Bob, my excuse is age!!! AP (Amateur Photographer) is a weekly photo mag in the UK cost here £2.

AP is a weekly magazine - unheard of here in the USA. Worth every penny I pay for a US subscription to this UK magazine. There are very few US photography magazines worth a dang. I like Shutterbug and Lenswork, Shots and Juxtapoz (not really a photography magazine per se). Otherwise, I read the British magazines. How come they do such a good job there?

Bill they are not ALL wonderful, trust me. The digital ones are dreadful, same article chewed over and regugitated appear in all of them.
Black and White Photography, Outdoor Photography (Same Publisher ) are excellent.
Practical Photography and Photography less so now, (very digital biased! ), and their sales are dropping. AP went through a spell like that but falling sales made them rethink! I used to get Popular Photography from the States but have cancelled my subscription despite constant e-mails offering it for $12 per year!!! Since Jason Schneider gave up as editor its standard has dropped enormously IMHO.

Thanks Guys!-- I have been a shutterbug fan since last Christmas, and just learned of Lenswork, which is a great read. And, very few ads... If any.
I will keep my eyes open for AP. As always, this forum always has good info. And a friendly lot too!

I agree on PP, but I do still like it and pick it up when I can, just don't subscribe. Outdoor Photography is a bit naff, IMHO. AP is the best of the lot!
I also collect vintage camera magazines (a new mad passion) and the USA used to put out some wonderful photography magazines. Sigh.
