David, what pays for magazine production is a lot to do with advertising revenue, and what advertisers want to do is sell their products and get market share. The subscribers are useful only insofar as they buy the advertised products - their contribution through subscription pays the postage and not much more. Maybe a bit cynical, but you get my drift.
So anything is going to be a compromise, I think, unless you're seriously into large format and then there are specialist publication for that sub set of photographers.
Although I'm in Australia I subscribe to the UK Black & White Photography magazine. It's not perfect, it does carry too much digital stuff for my total pleasure but there's enough there to keep me interested and I am doing a bit of scanning and digital printing as my darkroom is also the laundry and I can't always get past the ironing baskets.
I didn't see whether you were primarily interested in mono or colour. If the latter then B&W may not be for you, but it is still something I look forward to each month.
