I've always paired Lagavulin and Laphroaig in my mind, as primarily I'd characterize both as smoky and peaty, Laphroaig being a rougher, tougher and less refined version (IMO) than Lagavulin. But Bowmore I'd stand apart from those other two. Saltiness is usually my first impression when tasting that one. But to be sure, I do enjoy drinking it.
Fortunately, I don't pick up on phenol and iodine when enjoying Laphroaig.
Anyone here like Strathisla? The first time I tasted it I simply loved it. A subsequent bottle was lackluster but my most recent bottle totally hit the spot.
Ernstk, keep fighting the good fight.

I suggest that you never discover the Spanish "whisky" Mag 5, Alex. Ooh boy!!
The only person I've ever met who drank whisky with coke was a drummer I used to work with. 'Nuff said, I think

The midges only fly when the wind is close to zero speed or less, if they fly you will be real sorry.

Bourbon?
Bourbon?
At the risk of introducing a sour note, I've just been out for dinner and had several large slugs of Van Winkle 13 year old Rye, from Kentucky. Quite superb and bottled at a strength of 96 proof, it's a nice drink.

Ernst....oh you lucky *******.
Here in NC the state liquor agency only keeps two ryes on the menu- Jim Beam's & Wild Turkey's. Both are nice intros to rye whiskey, but I'd love to be able to get others.
But then you live where a much more proper whisky is made and I'm all the more jealous.
Hopefully next May- while on honeymoon- the wife will allow a foray to the north end to sample some of these finest examples of brown water. So far she's sympathetic to my cause. Having discovered Scottish ancestry helps to bolster my case.
