Yesterday, I happened to bump into a display of Taschen's "Genesis" book by Sebastiao Salgado.
I have not had a chance to flip through all the pages - the edition is really impressive: two huge ( I mean HUGE) volumes, beautifully bound and printed, and the photographs are really impressive - all the more, because it is all B&W, mainly landscape and naturalistic stuff. At EUR 3.000 price tag, this looks to me like a bargain, however, regrettably I do not think I will buy one, if not for the price, for the lack of space to display the album ( it comes with a custom made wooden display support).
Has anybody of you bought this ? What are your thoughts?
Thanks
Marek

I would buy it in a second if I had the $$ but alas, no.... Then I'd rent a bigger apartment. I have his Africa, and Migrations, and they are incredibly moving.

Less expensive edition

Less expensive edition

I'll probably get the less expensive edition. Museum of Natural History in London is going to do a showing. Love his work.

Yes, the collector's edition of the book looks remarkable. There is a short video clip here, with the photographer and publisher discussing the project and showing off the two volumes of the book. The boxed set weighs 59kg (130 pounds).

Currently, and until September, the world-premier exhibition of the project is showing at the Natural History Museum in London. The link to their page for the show is here. More than eight years in execution, thirty-two geographical areas, more than thirty-five weeks per year travelling and photographing, peerless production quality -- I'll soon be travelling to UK specifically to visit the exhibition. 🙂

Salgado and his wife run their own agency, Amazonas Images, and here is their own page for the Genesis project. The site also covers a lot more about the previous projects carried out by the photographer of course.
