So, I went to purchase a Canadian Amazon e-gift card for Mother's Day.
They have a nifty little feature where you can upload an image to use for the digital gift card instead of using their default image. There was an agreement checkbox for uploading the image, so I took a look at it. Here's what particularly caught my interest and quickly made me cancel the upload. I mean, really, give away all my rights to an image just so I can have it on an online gift card to send once? (note, they use the British spelling of license):
"Licence Grant for Materials. You hereby grant to Amazon, its Affiliates and sublicencees a worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty-free, perpetual right and licence to (a) reproduce, distribute, transmit, publicly perform and publicly display the Materials, in whole or in part, in any manner and Media, (b) modify, adapt, translate and create derivative works from the Materials, in whole or in part, in any manner and Media, and (c) sublicence the foregoing rights, in whole or in part, to any third party, with or without a fee.
Licence for Name, Trademarks and Likenesses. You hereby grant to Amazon, its Affiliates and sublicencees a worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty-free, perpetual right and licence to use all trademarks, trade names, and the names and likenesses of any individuals that appear in the Materials."
