Amusing thoughts upon X-Pro 1 competition back then . ..

Having achieved a new X-Pro 1 / 27mm for the £308 outlay of an entry level digital camera , I was amused by the prices of the competition back in the day , especially as I have seen an X-Pro Body for £675 , 50% off the original price , which is beyond my meagre means post retirement .

I would never have afforded any of those cameras , yet here I am with one of the best of it's day .

It's perfect for me , as it would have been back then when I picked one up in a store to play with , never anticipating that the insane plunge in prices for outdated digitals would make it possible .

[I accept that the Leica M8 / Digiux 3 / L1 were expensive at the time , but this was an inheritance / crazy blip in entry level camera land , since then , £550 for a Sony A35 kit with two lenses and a 35mm f1.8 was stretching my budget considerably ]

Honestly , I do feel a bit weird using tools way above my competence 'plateau' [ thanks Roger ] , but i guess that plenty of people also invest in expensive 'toys' !

Body from white goods retailer with a few cameras - brand new , not even opened £168.
Lens online £150 .
Lens shade e-bay UK, £5 awaited .
Hand camera strap ex-film Olympus .

I know it's older , but does that make it any worse ?
It's probably going to be a one lens camera , but still not bad for a 'fixed lens' compact .
Reminds me of a Yashica Electro 35 given to me years ago- I like that size.

I don't consider digital cameras to be disposable goods as seems to be the norm today. If it's good enough for me to buy, it's good enough for me to use until it completely wears out - many years if I'm lucky.

Some of the digital orientated forums just kill me. As soon as something new is released the attitude is that all the prior models are immediately obsolete and total crap.

Fortunately , my previous digitals were bought on close out or light used , so not worth trading/selling.. that's my excuse anyway .
Hopefully , by rotating use , they will see me out ! I still like to pick up the Pentax K10D with manual 50mm [ I like the nom 75 mm ].I can't see the problem in enjoying older digitals just because - even my 7mp Leica Digilux 3 and Panasonic L1 are a joy to use , and for my modest needs , perfectly adequate .
I realise that I am in distinguished company with Leicas and Leitz lenses all around , but , heck , there must be room for the impoverished !
