I am not really new to photography in general, but I rarely tried to take pics of people on the street with no real purpose (meaning - publication, story, etc). On vacation this March, I tried to do some street photography and here are the results:

The Flickr Set

I only brought the D700 and a 35mm/85mm with me. That's a pretty hefty setup. Got some funny looks, esp. since I didn't really speak with anyone and acted very touristy.

Best regards,
Dmitry

These are very nice IMO and further proof that you don't really need a sneaky little camera to get great street shots! :D

Incidentally, how were your black and white conversions done?

Thanks Keith!

I used Silver Efex 2 for the b/w conversion. It is so easy to get carried away. I only realize once prints are made how fake some look :)

BTW, did you get you X100 yet???

Somewhere in cyberspace my name is on a list ... that's as much as I know. :p

Regarding your black and white conversions ... I thought they were very nice. :)

Great set, but not fair....you have the most beautiful and target-rich city in the world to shoot in!

There's some very good shots - but really too much pictures in your set IMO -
You might have a tighter editing.
The main interest is the quality of your eyes - you're a photographer -
The main default is that damned zoom : a lot of pictures are cropped (and certainly re-cropped at the editing, plus too much different focal lenght and your "no purpose", and it's… boring.
The spectator (me, at least) can't fix is attention and interest - a lot of different post-processing effects, no narration also in your album, then :
Too much reasons to leave!
I'm not sure that "street photo" is a subject in itself - to have a concept and more unity will give your set more intersting.

I loved this one. Great moment!

I agree ... that shot really stands out as extra special!

I've taken the liberty of inserting it in the thread because it deserves a little extra attention IMO. I hope you don't mind ... I can remove it if you do. :)
