An idea for streamlining the gallery a bit

Would it make sense to build an interface for the gallery that would allow posters to place images into galleries that are separated by camera, lens? These galleries could be virtual (not actually segregated, but only offer users the ability to browse through, say, an APO Lanthar gallery if they should so choose).

I like that certain other sites have this functionality, and I think it would be doable to only use the camera and lens fields in the image upload tool to build virtual bins into which the images would fall - as well as into their original gallery bins.

Am I crazy? We are maniacs for the gear, and there is always so much talk about how lenses perform, wouldn't that make sense?

It's not a crazy idea, but it sounds a bit complicated.

As an alternative to satisfy the gearheads, would it be difficult to make the "Camera," "Lens", and "Film" fields searchable? That way, someone looking for pictures made with an Apo Lanthar could find them by doing a search.

I think they are searchable. I just thought it would be easier for users to browse virtual galleries. Just use the data in the fields to populate these galleries with images so people can browse them. Of course, searching works too, but people don't even know of some of the lenses out there.

You can search on title, title & description, "all fields", or comments only, but you can't search specifically for entries in which the "Lens" field contains "Ultron,"for example.

then I think it would make alot of sense. I don't know how to program anything, though, so I have no idea what that would require.

I like to browse sometimes photosig or other sites "by lens", especially if I search for bokeh of particular lens...
By camera? photos from M3 and M7 with tha same lens, film etc are identical, aren't they? :)

best regards
