Well, they got Texas and Carolina (and a couple of pretenders), can't think of what's left . . .;-)
There are two Carolinas, NC and SC. The original state of Carolina included what is now NC, SC, and Tennessee, if I recall correctly.

You mean the original colony of Carolina. It was a proprietary colony, ownership granted to eight "Lord Proprietors" by the British Crown in 1662. Some of the proprietors were peers, others were wealthy gentry men. Carolina's territory stretched south to the still undefined border with Florida (Spanish territory) and therefore included the present state of Georgia as well as the Carolinas. Famously John Locke was engaged to write its original constitution. Capital: Charles Town (now Charleston, SC).

Edit: many colonies claimed lands to the west including Carolina, but as settlers moved west they encroached on territory also claimed by the French (part of New France).
