An interesting idea for a street shooter...

Use a Nikon FE, proven reliable and with Aperture Priority as well.

For shooting on streets, I only meter shade and bright light and switch between the two appropriately. Pre-set lens and aperture and shutter and I'm good to go. Any manual body will do fine!

In fact, I use a Nikkormat FTn with meter that can be read out from the top and a pre-AI Panagor 28/2.5 that is of the same vintage. Came with the camera and looks to have been mounted on it forever. I'm sure the Distagon is a far better lens though.

I agree, it sounds pretty nice, all you really need for film. I continually have to keep myself from buying film cameras, "remember why you went digital, remember why you went digital." I say this every time I look at the ads.

Have fun

The FE was my first Nikon camera...it has a great meter...I shot a ton of Velvia with it and was always impressed with the outcome...didn't use it much in AE...I would meter then make adjustments according to the scene...
The FE was given to me and it came with the Tamron 28-70 zoom lens...great set-up to start with...

I have an FE and recommend it too. It is especially nice during the day with the full spectrum needle measuring for shutter speed, but has AE lock too!

The FE does not eat batteries either, the FE-2 kind of does.

having carried an F2 with 28/2 AIS in my donkey pocket for longer than my lower back would care--can i shrug? ya, it works, whatever, post some pics... 😎

Or ......

Nikon FA with it's excellent matrix metering and the added bonus of Program mode? I found that much better to use on the street compared to an FE or F2A when I used to own Nikon gear.

Actually, a while ago, I had an idea for street shooting:
I really like RF's but if I put a 28mm on a nikon F with a waistlevel, zone focus, and don't bring the camera to my eyes, I think I can get nice people pictures, withhout being too aggressive, and with a very special point of vue....
