Great to hear Zuikologist! Yeah, it took me a long time to realise there was lots of photographic opportunity outside of the capital. All I did before that was plan day trips in for street photography!

Very interesting, especially as I cycle past what I suspect is the same violin maker every morning on my way to the station.

It's amazing what lurks behind Oxford's scenes - I've had amongst other things the pleasure of handling Ruskin's Daguerrotypes at the Museum of the History of Science, and the more dubious pleasure of dealing with the contents of Norman Heatley's shed, while my partner has moved stuff round the stacks in the Bod.

I guess you know Nas? I think everyone in Oxford with a camere does...

Assuming you're cycling down Banbury Rd, that'd be the one!

Yes, the more I dig, the more I find. I'm hoping this project will go for another three to four years yet, so will be getting around the houses!

That sounds like you've seen some wonderful stuff too. I'd love to get into the museums and photograph there - somewhere to try at some point!

Great project and great idea. I like the mix of high tech (train dispatcher) and the medium tech stuff, fixing the buses and the true craftsmen building and restoring violins.
Keep working on it - could be a book project in the future.

The bus mechanics photos are very pleasing to my reminiscing memory, because as a young child I remember visiting the TTC repair garage (in Toronto) with my dad, as I had a great-uncle who worked there as a mechanic.

I've never thought about the mix of different tech levels - I wonder if this is something I can explore more in the work as it develops.

Definitely planning on a book as the project draws to a close, which I expect won't be for a few more years at least.

Yes that one came out quite well I thought - I always try and mix up shutter speeds through the day, to see if I can get anything interesting from movement. One thing I always have to remember is to switch the camera back to a mechanical shutter when outside at the station, so I don't get any of the 'rolling shutter' problems. I like to switch to electronic shutter when inside, so I don't disturb the scene as much.

Hey guys,

This update comes from a few weeks back when I spent the morning at local Museums Resource Centre, where they store, conserve and prepare for exhibitions across Oxfordshire.

In these images Rebecca is working on removing out-dated conservation methods on an Anglo Saxon (6th or 7th century AD) skeleton and bowl, replacing them with modern methods.
