I've been lurking here for a while, but decided to break cover because I've just bought a Bessa R and an Ultron 35/1.7, both new from Ffordes. My camera history goes ME Super/K1000/EOS500/FM2n/10d, but digital hasn't been a great success for me in many ways, so here I am with my first rangefinder. I've realised that I've always been a camera owner, but not really a great photographer, and the Bessa/Ultron combination doesn't seem to be a bad tool to use while I try to change that.

I haven't got a film scanner (although I'm tempted to sell the 10d to buy one), so I'll have to pay for CDs from the film processor for the time being so I can post some images here. I dabbled in B&W processing a few years ago, but didn't really know what I was doing, so I may have another go at that too at some stage. For now I'm just hoping for a fine day at the weekend to get out and take some pictures.

Weather forecast on the MET office page looks pretty grim for the central southern region over the weekend. They've even issued a severe weather warning for flooding starting tonight. Looks like you and I will both be praying for a dry half hour to get out and get shooting.

Interesting to read that you are also going back to film after digital. I still use my 10D as well as my old EOS5 (non-D) but I'm definitely favouring the EOS5 these days although that might change now I have the "R"! 😉

Good luck with the R.

/Phil.

Welcome and 'me to' on the not-so-hot as a photographer stuff. As to weather - hey, with B&W, bad weather is best. UK has got some real advantages there. Red filters and all.

Best Regards,

Thanks for the welcomes gentlemen. I'll be carrying the R + Tri-X with me at the weekend, whatever the weather, and as long as there are a few minutes without rain I'll be happy enough. I've got a roll of Velvia in the FM2, which I was hoping to use to get some autumn colour, but it looks like that will have to wait for another weekend.

Phil, I'm in two minds about the 10D. I've taken some reasonable shots with it, but often I've been disappointed with the results. I think that film makes me slow down and use my brain a bit more, which is what I really need to do. It's also a bit of a beast to lug around, which is where the R comes into its own, I hope.

Thanks again guys

Kevin
