And Pentax Swallowed by Ricoh.

On 01 October, Pentax officially changed its name to become the Pentax Ricoh Imaging Company, as Ricoh's takeover bid was made official.
So they are now a little PRIC eh?
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Did you see the price they paid? Wow, what a deal.

I guess Hoya was only interested in Pentax for a brief moment.

Hoya was never interested in Pentax as a whole. their entire decision was based around splitting Pentax and taking the medical division for itself. from what I understand, the price Hoya paid for Pentax was very high, and a lot of execs weren’t too happy about it. they sold the imaging division to Ricoh because the execs didn’t feel it was worthwhile for their portfolio. cheap sale or not, I’m glad that Ricoh bought it up. Hoya was doing nothing but killing Pentax imaging, and to now be in the ownership of a company that actually WANTS the imaging division to be profitable and climb bak to the top ranks in the camera world is a good thing. I look forward to seeing where Ricoh will take the PENTAX brand in the future.
