WSU Quarterback senior quarterback Gary Rogers was injured tonight and taken off the field by ambulance. I covered the game and not only saw something remarkable, I also got to photograph it. The coach for Portland State prompted both teams, the entire bench on the field behind the ambulance. He had them take a knee the whole time medics tended to Rogers. After a long delay of game he was taken to Pullman Memorial Hospital. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iDzPZbsK2upL9ZEk05yh...

Let's all hope for the best.

Er... ok.

So he got hurt and...

... they started to cry?
it is not about grief, it is about showing respect and honour to a fallen comrade. putting aside competitive differences...

i fail to understand 2 things: 1. how this dovetails with the aesthetics or philosophy of photography...2. what the title means...

It's a game where it seems that watching people get beat up and hurt is the main reason people watch it. What would really make for interesting photographs would be "imbedded" photographers with each team shooting in the midst of the action with wide angle lenses, not this long lens stuff.

If I go to a football game I'll carry a rangefinder & a 35 & photograph the people. They make for much more interesting subjects IMO. I wanted to see the shot where the QB got hit? You missed the best shot!

Actually he broke a vertebrae his neck, ended his career. He'll never play again. The coach for the opposing team came on the field and had both teams kneel in respect. As they all took a knee it started to rain. The philosophy part? Not all sports photos are about sports. Sorry, didn't think I needed to explain it.

If it's hits though, I have those also: http://www.palousephoto.net/gallery/6052510_HVQJw#381853978_bxZpg
