And you may ask yourself . . .

Nobody knows? I know where the body pieces part, but is there a lock I need to open or something?

No problem. I had to discover that myself on a used Nikonos III. Judging from the nicks in the edges of the parts (caused by a screwdriver) the previous owner was obviously also stymied by the process. 🙂

It's kind of unusual also in that it came with the 80mm lens. Should be better for those shark candids. I'm anxious to try it out. Skinny dipping, anyone?

You grease the lens and body seals with pertoleum jelly, right?
I don't think so. IIRC petroleum jelly (aka "vaseline") attacks rubber over time. There is a special lubricant. You can still get it from people that do CLAs on these cameras. If you can't find one via Google, let me know and I'll dig something out of my files.

Remove the lens first. Then use the hinges on the camera strap to act as levers to pry the two parts apart.
Make sure camera is dry first !
If used in salt water, rinse camera in fresh water, then dry it before opening.
