Andre Kertesz @ the Detroit Institute of Arts

Just back from Paris where I saw a Kertesz exhibition in Jeu de Paume. What a wonderful feeling for composition the man had. Very, very inspiring.

If you find yourself in Detroit between now and April 10, 2011, you can check out a pretty phenomenal exhibit of Kertesz works at the DIA (apparently someone in the acquisitions committee was really into him).

Dante

Just went about a months ago. Pretty much all his most famous photos are there. All prints are small, which is good- you come closer and pay more attention to details.

Some of Kertesz's greatest photographs are printed in these tiny 2x3 inch (guessing) prints. I would assume it's film size but in my memory slightly larger than 2-1/4 by 2-1/2.

I think I'll probably head over to Detroit this Saturday to check it out. Grab some dinner (and some beer!) at Slow's BBQ afterwards. If anyone wants to meet up with me and the missus, let me know!

I certainly hope there are plans for a tour with this show. Based on my book collection, Kertesz is easily my favorite photographer and yet I've never seen a major showing of his work.

I saw this exhibit back in December when we had an APUG meeting up in Detroit. It was a very good show. 95% of the photography room at the Detroit museum is devoted to the Kertesz exhibit. There is a small room off of it that includes older works.
