Andy Warhol Polaroid show/ "Jock Shots"

Those are great. The composition, especially the ones with equipment, is very cool. They make a great show as a group.

Great images, indeed. Warhol was an interesting artist, to say the least; and perhaps under-appreciated for his actual talent, being somewhat obscured by the atmosphere of his personality and the times he lived in.

Since I won't have a chance to see this show in person, I wanted to inquire if these images are of the original Polariods, or have they been reproduced? I'm actually rather curious as to the longevity of the original Polariod media, and if there are issues that affect their long-term value.

I went to an Warhol Polaroid exhibition at the University of Albany last December; all the polaroids were original (they had the Warhol embossed stamp). Actually it wasn't all Polaroids, some were original black and white prints... there was no sports figures that I could remember it was mostly portraits of people in his circle.

As far as condition, some were starting to yellow slightly but over all I was really impressed on how color had stayed, they were curated in groups of 5 or 6 portraits of the same person, considering how limited the Big Shot can be in terms of focusing distance and shutter speed (limited to the flash sync and the film that could be used) I felt the portraits were quite good in some cases even moving. Honestly the general look reminds me of Terry Richardson's results using the Yashica T4 with Portra NC, except you have the polaroid color palette and of course the subject matter was limited to just about facial movements and hand gestures.

I was enamored with it enough to actually consider finding a big shot to use (quickly went against because of the lack of flash cubes, already having polaroids, and cost of film) 🙂
