Angled viewfinder?

I remember reading in a biography of Walker Evans a quick reference that Walker sometimes used an angled viewfinder with his Leica. I wonder if this is what they were referring to?

Has anybody used this thing? Does it attach to the eyepiece? Any other (non-super wide) angled viewfinder options?

Yes, it attaches to the eyepiece.

I haven't used one, but I believe it's mainly intended for situations in which the camera is very low near the ground or vertically against a wall and you physically cannot see straight through the viewfinder - it was an accessory for the 90mm Macro Elmar lens, for example.

Unlike the AUFSU type "waist level" finders, with this modern finder, your eye needs to be close to the peephole. I used an AUFSU for a whie - it was cool, but ultimately I rpefered to just look through the camera normally.

I have that angle finder for use with the aforementioned 90mm Macro. I don't think it will do what you want. It's really designed for having your eye right up against it. It also magnifies the view somewhat so it isn't useful for wider lenses. It is however pretty cool for what it does. Got mine on ebay for about half the cost.

The AUFSU is probably what you are looking for. It doesn't attache to the viewfinder - it sits in the hot shoe. They were going for more on ebay a couple months ago, but I've seen a couple go for $100-150 the past couple weeks (I just picked one up). I haven't had a chance to use it much yet. It only gives you a 50mm field of view. You don't have to be close to it to see the image, but it is pretty small. I think there are (very rare) versions for 35 and 28.
