I am writing merely in representation of the work of Randy and Ed. The former for starting up the chat with the latter. And the latter for securing the space for us to get together. I shall now refrain from using "former" or "latter" for the remainder of this e-mail.
Anyway. Randy had a good idea - let's go for a shoot in the city, then get together and share work, ideas, etc? Kind of like the photo slam that we had at Randy's firm a while ago (only a few RFFer's attended). Ed has gotten "clearance" from the powers that be to host it his place of work. We could all meet up there first (so that we can drop off prints and whatnot), then go out shooting and hanging out, then back together for food, drink, and merriment.
At this point, I'm only writing here on RFF. The space isn't huge so I'm not sure we'd want to throw it out to other groups (like the foothill photo club).
Thoughts?

Just to add to what Allan has already stated, the location that Ed secured is in San Francisco (okay, "the city" to us locals). Ed couldn't make the previous one that we held in my offices in Palo Alto and, as a result, suggested holding one in the city. I'd be up for a photo shoot combined with a social gathering in the city. Particularly if we agree in advance as to where we might go to find interesting shots. Any other takers?

Sounds complicated and clandestine.

Hi. I am a 90 min/2-hour drive away from SF so would love to meet and share images, ideas and merriment with fellow rangefinder enthusiasts. Saturdays work best for me as I am a M-F 8-5 worker. Please keep me posted. Cheers!

What day and time did the former and latter discuss?

Ray, I believe that the latter and former had a conversation in person, rather than online. But I may be incorrect and either the former or latter or latter or former can correct the aforementioned possible wrong-ness.

Sorry, but under advice of counsel the former neither confirms nor denies any such allegations... ;-)

Randy,
Does that mean you are talking to yourself again? I thought you had that under control...

We missed you last night in Palo Alto, but from what I could see of the game you went to a doozy!

Yeah, Allan, we did miss you. Had a good time, I must say. Lot's of great "geek camera talk" and we even joked that we acheived the right balance (at one point there were at least two Leica's for each beer on the table).
As for traction on the get together, feel free to close the loop with Ed since it's your gig. I'm still interested, particularly if combined with a photo shoot.

Thank YOU Roland since you were the one who suggested the get together to show me your Luigi grip cases. And yes, getting together with you guys was very bad for my personal finances. Way too many temptations as you guys kept pulling interesting cameras, lenses, etc., out of your bags. Sheesh, I shoulda just spent the evening shooting film... woulda been a lot cheaper in the long run!

Yes thanks all around! It was fun, although I can still smell Randy's Garlic Fries. I'll be eyeing M3's with envy and temptation from here on out, so I didn't get away uncursed. We can certainly pat ourselves on the back, because there was some nice gear on the table last night.
Roland, let me know when you're ready to try out the 28 Hex (how you'll reconcile it with your 2 lens limit...I don't know

So back to the original get-together idea, at Ed Rudolph's work place by Telegraph Hill. Preferences for when? I'm thinking maybe even as early as this Saturday - in the afternoon? Or maybe the following weekend? Or even a weeknight? Next week (including book-ended weekends) is best for me as my wife is out of town and I don't have to worry about that (our anniversary is coming up and I don't want to be like "I'm going to hang out with photo buddies!")
The idea is to gather in one area, put some art work in a place, go out and shoot, then reconvene to talk shop and show work.

Sounds great, Allan. Unfortunately, I'm not available on a Saturday until 8/19 (I, too, have an anniversary coming up this week). A weeknight sounds interesting, however.

I'd prefer to get together to either meet and photo slam, or meet and shoot, but not meet, photo slam, shoot. It depends on the weeknight for me, but I'm in the city and can get to Telegraph fairly easily. Late afternoon/early evening weekends in downtown could be a fun shooting session.

How about (can be a completely separate event) bring some cool gear and meet up at a bar in San Francisco and have some beers and pass stuff around as we drink and chat about photography and cameras?
Never really been into group shoots or hanging out in conference rooms when I don't have to

hey, I'm game for any of the scenarios mentioned. Just saying that we did have a place if we wanted.
