California (Bay Area, Northern) Another bay area get-together?

We kinda just faded on this one. Do we want to gather at a bar in the city? That seemed to be the consensus. I'm open to whatever.

At the SFMOMA The Shomei Tomatsu: Skin of the Nation exhibit closes August 13, and the Picturing Modernity: The Photography Collection is ongoing. Do you want to see these on Sunday (13th) and then hit the 4th street bar and grill for drinks and gear/photo slam?

:)

I'd be in for that. Anyone else?

hmmm...maybe I'll just stay home and watch IRL. :D May be a better option, anyway. The sig.other gave me a dirty look when I told her I might be hanging with some local photo folks on Sunday.:p

Sheesh. This is hard, eh?

First rule of bay area RFF club: we'll pick dates, and make it if you can. I don't mind sitting with just one other person somewhere talking scuttlebutt and showing photos.

Second rule of bay area RFF club: let's all just start throwing out dates that work for us (with approval from SO, of course)

The only reason why I've been hesitant is that I'm in the south bay, and there are a lot of folks on the peninsula and in the city. If I were to say...August 13, some trendy coffee shop in Palo Alto, mid-day or early afternoon. Would anyone join me?

Getting consensus among a larger group spread around the bay area is a monumental task. So, Allan, I like your approach of picking a time/date and place and whoever can make it hopefully will. As for a get together in Palo Alto, that one's easy for me so I'd definitely be interested.

I'm probably out for the Palo Alto get-together, especially if it's a weekend. I'd want to do SOMETHING like the museum or shooting downtown to justify the time.

Ray, I agree that the museum thing would be neat. But dont' those two exhibits only coincide on 8/13?

Randy, see you Sunday, then? What time? Like 2? 3?

one is ongoing, and one ends on 8/13

well, since 8/13 is out for you, I presume you are not proposing that one :). I might make a trip some other time for the ongoing one, and will let people know. Again, if anyone wants to join me, that's cool. if not, well, that's cool, too, as Peter Gibbons would say.

Allan, unfortunately, I can't yet commit to Sunday. As much as I'm interested, my father-in-law unexpectedly went into the hospital this morning so things are a bit up in the air at the moment. Should know more very soon and I'll let you know. Sorry and thanks.

On the contrary 8/13 is not out for me at all. I may still go to the museum, but it's more likely I'll go Thursday since none of this is panning out. I just can't justify going and sitting in a cafe in Palo Alto on a Sunday. I know most of you wackamos ;) seen your gear and could pick you out of a crowd. :) At this point about the only thing that'll get me away from the family for a couple of hours on a Sunday is a shoot/meeting or a MOMA visit/meeting. :) And besides from my experience, downtown SF is a lot more accessible than downtown Palo Alto. Downtown PA is WAY too crowded and the parking is miserable. :) I never thought I'd say that in relation to the city, but for our proposed get-together, one could literally park across the street from the 4th st. B&G for a few $, walk a block to the MOMA, spend two hours walking around and shooting in some great locations and neighborhoods, and end up gulping some cold drinks. Now THAT's a way to spend a Sunday away from the family! :)

Anyway, if I go THursday I'll report back and let you know how it is.

Took an extended lunch bread today and saw the Shomei Tomatsu exhibit at the SFMOMA. Well worth the visit. So good to see real black and white prints exhibited. The third floor also has the Picturing Modernity exhibit, as well as photos from collection. It was good to see some Friedlanders and W. Evans and others.

Tomatsu is on through August 13th (this Sunday).

Good for you, Ray. Sounds like a nice exhibit. And SFMOMA is always interesting to just wander around in.

Allan, doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make Sunday since I'll be tied up with family matters. Father-in-law is out of the hospital so now we're focused on spending some time with him. Sorry about bailing on you.
